  • This two-hour session will introduce participants to the concept of embodied anti-racism by exploring the dynamics of race from the perspective of the body, allowing for a deeper understanding of how the body responds to thoughts, feelings, and behaviors inside of white supremacy, white privilege, and white fragility.

Participants will learn definitions and concepts to support them in examining how and why race was constructed, how race has shaped our society, and the social narratives around race that shape one’s beliefs about themselves, others, and the world in which they exist. In addition, participants will learn the importance of conscious and skillful action in rendering systemic oppression obsolete.

Through dialogue, somatic practices, self-reflection, and self-exploration, participants will gain a foundational understanding of their role and responsibility in not only dismantling systemic racism, but in re-imagining and creating a world that nurtures belonging and cultivates healing.

  • This 12-week one-on-one journey guides you through a process of self-exploration and self-discovery that begins with an assessment of personal experiences, beliefs, and behaviors related to race and racism and that prepares you for conscious and skillful action to assist in building an embodied anti-racist society.

Through a series of conversations and exercises, you will be invited to examine your own implicit biases and racial conditioning, and to explore how these impact your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. While uncomfortable feelings and experiences will be explored while confronting and unpacking difficult truths and experiences related to race and racism, you will be supported in creating a brave space to navigate your emotions with a gentleness that invites you to go deeper so to experience where the “breaking” becomes the opening.

In a brave space, I will guide you through somatic, mindfulness, and body-centered practices to help you connect with and process your experiences in a more embodied way, which will include breath work, grounding for body awareness, movement, and meditation.

*Note: There are three phases to this ongoing work and although all three phases are not required for your commitment, I highly recommend your commitment to all three phases so as to establish consistent support on your anti-racism journey.

The three phases are as follows:

Awareness: In this phase, we bring attention to implicit biases that are embedded in the body and mind and the emotions that accompany this new awareness. In this discovery, we also explore your ancestry and the complex and multi-faceted assimilation process of your family’s lineage in order to belong to white culture, what that means for you as a white-bodied person, and how to begin to process the trauma that lives in the white body around these truths.

Acceptance & Forgiveness - In this phase, the focus is centered around creating a sound foundation within individuals to accept the implicit biases and unconscious beliefs that are uncovered in the Awareness Phase. Emotions, such as guilt and shame, are gently confronted here while participants learn how to discharge these limiting emotions through forgiveness of self and loving attention.

Conscious & Skillful Action: In this phase, you are guided to leverage your white privilege in support of an anti-racist society through conscious and skillful action that includes, but not limited to, developing tools and strategies for interrupting racist patterns and behaviors, both in oneself and in others. As we remain centered on disarming white supremacist ideology and the systemic racism it creates, you will learn how to establish a space that nurtures belonging and cultivates healing in all cases of oppression.

  • Personal growth: Anti-racism work involves examining our own biases and assumptions, which can lead to personal growth and self-awareness.

Increased empathy: By learning about the experiences of people from different racial and ethnic backgrounds, we can develop greater empathy and understanding.

Improved relationships: anti-racism work can help to break down barriers between people of different races and ethnicities, leading to more positive and authentic relationships.

Reduced prejudice and discrimination: Anti-racism work can help to reduce prejudice and discrimination by promoting greater understanding and respect for people from different racial and ethnic groups.

Improved mental and physical health: Research suggests that experiencing racism and discrimination can have negative effects on mental and physical health. anti-racism work can help to reduce these negative effects and promote greater well-being for all.

Social justice: Perhaps most importantly, anti-racism work is essential for promoting social justice and creating a more equitable and just society. By working to dismantle systems of racism and discrimination, we can help to create a better future for all people.

  • This three-part series is similar to the one-on-one embodied anti-racism course except that this series moves participants through a process of self-exploration and self-discovery in a group setting in preparation of uprooting systemic racism as a collective by breaking down white supremacy beliefs and ideology in the individual white body.

As with the one-on-one journey, participants begin with an assessment of personal experiences, beliefs, and behaviors to deepen one's understanding of their conscious or unconscious participation in systemic racism and how they can consciously and purposefully participate in practices that support building an embodied anti-racist culture.

This series emphasizes the importance of being fully present in the body, listening to and honoring the experiences and perspectives of others, and actively engaging in conscious and skillful action to re-imagine and build new systems that are equitable for all bodies.

Participants will have ongoing support, guidance, and accountability throughout their journey.

  • Increased learning and understanding: When individuals come together to do anti-racism work, they can share their knowledge and experiences, which can deepen everyone's understanding of the issues at hand.

Accountability and support: Working in a group can provide a sense of accountability and support, which can be essential in sustaining long-term anti-racism efforts. Group members can hold each other accountable for taking action and can provide emotional support through the challenging work.

Diverse perspectives: A group can bring together individuals from different backgrounds and experiences, which can help to broaden perspectives and promote greater empathy and understanding.

Amplified impact: When a group works together, they can have a greater impact than individuals working alone. By pooling their resources, skills, and knowledge, they can create more significant change.

Building community: anti-racism work can be isolating and overwhelming at times. Working in a group can help to build a sense of community and connection, which can be essential for sustaining the work over the long term.

  • There are three phases—with each phase building on the other—plus an introductory phase:

Introductory phase - A 60 minute one-on-one session to support participants in delver deeper into the embodied anti-racism work.

Phase I, II, III: Each phase is 6 weeks short and entails meeting as a small group of no more than 8 people for 1 hour/week.
Expect conscious and purposeful self work in between each meeting.
